 Artist Statement

I’m a visual artist based in Charlotte North Carolina, and I have been painting for over 10 years using acrylic medium on large scale canvases. I have worked in corporate communications for many years and believe these paths parallel one another because the primary goal of both is communication. My history creating art came to me informally as I’m self-trained.

I’m interested in reimagining the recognizable, taking familiar symbolic representations and creating new forms conveying emotions that may include humor or pathos. I describe my work as visual theology inviting the viewer to reflect on the deeper meanings of love, beauty, purpose, and ultimate reality.

I paint and styles that include both figurative and abstract impressionism implying the dichotomies of certainty versus mystery; literal versus metaphor; and reality versus allegory. Painting for me is a spiritual act of contemplation. I hope my art will challenge perception, evoke emotion, and spark new thought.
